The Bank fuer Sozialwirtschaft AG
Founded in 1923 by the six major non-statutory welfare organisations in Germany, the Bank für Sozialwirtschaft AG (BFS) is a bank specialising in the social and health sectors and geared towards organisations and institutions in the cooperative, mutual and non-profit sector. BFS is a non-quoted joint-stock company. The principal shareholders are still the six non-statutory welfare organisations in Germany: Workers Welfare Association, the German Red Cross, the German Caritas Association, the welfare services of the German Protestant Church, the Association of Non-affiliated Charities and the Central Welfare Agency of the Jews.
In 1997 BFS set-up an office in Brussels in order to assist customers implementing their European strategies. BFS Europa-Service offers individual consulting services. In addition, BFS offers an internet-based news system called EUFIS, which enables clients to get up-to-date information about EU funding possibilities as well as EU politics.
